Davits
Davits were mechanical devices used on ships to handle small boats, such as lifeboats or ship’s boats. These sturdy and pivoting structures were typically made of wood or metal and were mounted on the ship’s deck or sides. Davits consisted of a pair of arms or brackets that extended outward, allowing the boat to be raised or lowered for deployment and retrieval. The primary purpose of davits was to facilitate the launching and recovery of small boats, which were essential for various shipboard operations. By using davits, sailors could safely lower the boats from the ship’s deck into the water or hoist them back onboard when needed. This enabled tasks such as transportation of personnel, provisioning, or conducting repairs and inspections. Wooden Model Ship Fittings Davits come in a range of sizes and shapes.
