Deadeyes

Deadeyes were essential components of the rigging system on ships. These round wooden or metal blocks had multiple holes drilled around the circumference. Deadeyes were used to create tension in the rigging lines, such as shrouds and stays, which supported the masts. The function of deadeyes was to provide a point of attachment for rigging lines and enable adjustments in tension. The lines were threaded through the holes in the deadeye, forming a loop or lanyard. By adjusting the tension in the lanyards, sailors could control the alignment and tension of the rigging, ensuring the stability and proper positioning of the masts and sails. Wooden Model Ship Fittings Deadeyes come in a range of sizes and shapes.
