Life Buoys

Life buoys, also known as life rings or life belts, were crucial safety devices on old sailing ships designed to aid in rescuing individuals who fell overboard. They consisted of a circular buoyant object made of wood, cork, or other buoyant materials. Life buoys were typically painted in a distinctive color, such as bright orange or white, for high visibility. The primary purpose of life buoys was to provide flotation support to a person in the water, increasing their chances of survival until rescue could be performed. In the event of someone falling overboard, a life buoy would be quickly thrown into the water near the person to provide buoyancy and help keep them afloat. The circular shape and buoyant material of the life buoy made it easy for individuals to grasp onto and provided a stable platform for them to hold onto until assistance arrived. Wooden Model Ship Fittings Life Buoys come in a range of sizes and shapes.
