The HUNTER – British Armed Cutter 1797 is based on a typical late 17th century cutter, built for the British Navy in various forms. These ships were built to capture the smugglers, who, incidentally, were the first to use this type of ship (it seems that the English shipyards built them in pairs: one for the smugglers and one for the Customs). The Hunter was used as a coastguard vessel and also for military functions such as port survey, scout, warning and so forth.
