History of the Hannah US Schooner 1775
During the American Revolution the British Royal Navy blocked all ports to stop all possible vessels bringing supplies to the Continental Army.
General G.Washington decided to prepare what later become U.S Navy, in order to overcome these blockades. The first ship of his Navy was the Hannah, a fishing schooner of 78 tons launched in 1760. Armed with 4 lbs cannons, was given to Captain Nicholas Broughton, who immediately took command of it.
The HANNAH – US Schooner first sailed, as a warship, on September 1775. On her mast there was a white flag with a green pine and a phrase: ‘An appeal to Heaven’. This was the flag of the Navy Squadron of George Washington. Soon other vessels joined the Hannah, such as schooners Lee, Warren, Franklin and Harrison and the brigantine Washington, they were all at sea under that same flag.
On September 7, 1775 the schooner Hannah had already captured the British vessel Unity, loaded with naval stores and lumber. She continued to fight tenaciously for freedom until the end of the war. A beautiful glass bottle is included in each kit.
