The BOSPHORUS FERRY – Pasabache was designed as a warship and built at the Taranto Dockyard, Italy. At the end of WW2 she was converted to a passenger ship and launched in 1952. In the same year she entered service with the Turkish Maritime Affairs Co. and commenced her ferry services across the Bosphorus. Powered by two 1600 horsepower Sulzer engines the ship gained the reputation as the fastest of the Istanbul’s ferries. The ship had a passenger capacity of 2000. A particular feature of the ship was the decorative relief of the Goddess of Artemis on the wall of the staircase ascending to the upper deck.

The Pasabache carried passengers from 1952 until her retirement in 2010. The ship was special for the citizens of Istanbul with her nickname “Pasha”.
