History of the Yacht D’oro 17th Centurn Brandenburg Yacht
The YACHT D’ORO – 17th Century Brandenburg Yacht also known as the ‘New Yacht’ or the ‘Big Yacht’ was built in the years 1678-79 by Peckelherius at Kolberg. As the model was taken the yacht of Prince Wilhelm III of Orange. Her length was of about 20 metres, her width of about 6 metres and her draught about 1.60 metres.
She was armed with 8 guns. In 1683 there were on board 6 3-poind pieces and a 12-hand crew that could be increased to 50 hands in case of war. She was a good sailor. In 1680 was Pillau her port of registry; in 1693 she sailed to Amersterdam and on the Dutch Rhine. In 1694 she sailed from Emden to London, she was then in Berlin until 1700, then again at Emden where in the year 1721 she was broken up.
