History Fram Polar Ship
The Fram Polar Ship was a distinguished Norwegian vessel designed to withstand the extreme conditions of late 19th-century polar expeditions. Built in 1892, its reinforced construction allowed it to venture into the inhospitable regions of the Arctic and Antarctica. Under the command of the renowned Fridtjof Nansen, the Fram reached previously uncharted latitudes, playing a key role in the search for new routes through the ice. Later, the ship served in the expeditions of explorer Otto Sverdrup, mapping unknown areas of northern Canada, and in those of the legendary Roald Amundsen, who, with the Fram’s help, became the first man to reach the South Pole in 1911.
Thanks to these achievements, the Fram is considered one of the most famous polar exploration ships in history.
